Lubricating Your Rabbit Vibrator

Using your rabbit vibrator right out of the box might seem like a good idea at the time. However, before you do why not take five minutes to pick up the right lubricant for your toy? Choosing your particular lubrication can depend on a few things: the material your rabbit is made from (not all lubricants will be suitable for all toys), whether you prefer flavoured or non-flavoured lubricants, longer lasting or easy application lubricants. With all of this in mind, this guide has been written during which we will discuss some of the pros and cons of different lubricants and which vibrators they are suitable for. Let’s take a look at some of the best competitors for both yours and your rabbit’s affections:

Water-based lubricants

If in doubt, plum for a water-based lubricant. This style of lubricant is pretty much foolproof, body-safe and can be used on most, if not all, rabbit vibes regardless of material. Jelly rubber, ABS plastic, skin-safe and particularly silicone vibrators all work wonderfully with a good water-based lubricant.

Advantages of Water-Based Lubricants:

  • Cheaply available and often included in most online stockists special offers or as part of a bargain bundle (many of these included on Bondara.co.uk – outlined shortly)
  • Often sold in greater quantities than silicone or oil based lubricants
  • Condom safe and body safe as well as suitable for most, if not all, rabbit vibrators.
  • Usually odourless and don’t stain as easily as some silicone or oil based lubricants

Disadvantages of Water-based Lubricants:

  • Not as long lasting as silicone or oil based lubricants
  • Require more application than silicone or oil based lubricants
  • Less useful style lubricant during bath time play for both of these reasons

Suitable for:

  • To reiterate, a water-based lubricant is pretty much suitable for all types of material
  • Especially essential for silicone based toys
  • Can be sticky

Buyers Guide to Water Based Lubricants

Water-based lubricants are so popular that there are many different brands out there. Take a look at some of these best sellers and reviews to see just which type is yours and your rabbit’s perfect match.

Flavoured – Durex Play Range

durex play pina colada lube

The ever-popular Durex branded condoms and lubricant range offers this flavour packed range of water-based lubricants for £3.99 per 50ml. This non-sticky lube comes in a variety of flavours, meaning that as well as providing a perfect play partner for your rabbit, it is suitable for more focused oral play too. It’s also sugar free and quite tasty too:

“This lube tastes and smells yummy, it is perfect for oral. It feels amazing with penetration and works well with all of my sex toys.”
– says Devilyn on the LoveHoney website.

“The taste is likewise not too sweet. Stays wet for a long time and doesn’t dry up.”
– says Feisty Fox

The first thing to note here is that not only is it pleasurable to the senses but, on average, of a staggering 318 reviews on LoveHoney, this product scores an impressive 4 out of 5 stars. In addition to being well reviewed, this product also seems to tackle a common problem of water-based lubricant in that it is generally reported to be longer lasting.

Offers and bargains: For those with a sweet tooth, purchase two of these direct from the Love Honey website and get a free satin storage bag (worth £2.99) or add an oral vibrator for just £2 when you buy any flavour lubricant.

Value for money – Bondara Luxury Lubricant (Bondara’s own brand)

Value Lube

This particular water-based lubricant comes in at £7.99 for a 150ml bottle, making it quite cost-effective when compared to bigger brand names. Typically retailing at around £4 per 50ml, Bondara’s own brand lubricant provides on average 50% more lubricant when compared to more well known brands. What’s more, this lubricant is 100% skin friendly, PH compatible and condom friendly. It is also hypoallergenic, non sticky and stain free. The average customer on Bondara.co.uk also reviews this lubricant at an average 4.9 out of five stars:

“It’s not at all messy and sticky like I thought it would be, infact its quite the opposite.”
– says C.H.

“By far the best. Doesn’t go all sticky like most of the other lubes I’ve tried.”
– says Anon

“We bought this along with a dildo and it really is the business. Been married 10 years and have just started with the toys and this is a must have 4 the 2 of us. It is great for dildo use but also self use.”
– says anon on Bondara.co.uk

On average, a great all rounder and great value for money, Bondara’s own lubricant is also included in many of their sex toy bundles at no extra cost:

Bargain female sex toys bundle (£24.99) is one such example.  You can find more bundle examples on our Bundles page.

Stockists’ own brand names such as LoveHoney or the Rampant Rabbit Range by Ann Summers often offer their own lubrications discounted or included with certain toys or packages so keep your eyes peeled when browsing. And finally, as always, when shopping around keep the disadvantages listed here in mind when choosing your product. Your best bet is always to go with the product best at tackling these issues.

Silicone-based lubricants

Silicone-based lubricants are one such alternative to the water-based lube. This type of lubrication has many advantages over water-based lubricants but isn’t a viable alternative for silicone-based toys in particular. Best used with ABS Plastic or Jelly based toys, silicone-based lubrication can provide the following advantages over its water-based competitors:

Advantages: –

  • Longer lasting than water-based lubricants
  • Generally not as sticky as water-based lubes
  • Great for use in the bath or shower or with waterproof toys

Disadvantages:

  • Incompatible with a large range of materials including silicone, Real Feel skin material etc (use on these vibrators can cause your vibes materials to degrade)
  • More expensive per ml than water based
  • Stains easily

Suitable for:

  • ABS Plastic products
  • Jelly Rubber products

Buyers guide to Silicone-based lubricants

With all of this in mind, let’s take a brief look at some silicone based lubricants out there and their recommendations:

Long Lasting Silicone Lube – ID Millennium Silicone lube Squeeze bottle (65ml)

ID millennium silicone lubricant
ID Millennium Lube

The ID range of lubricants is both well known and well reviewed and this particular product is no different. Rolling in at £9.99 for 65ml, this product certainly isn’t the cheapest but is surprisingly effective and long lasting as far as silicone lubrication goes. 100% pure grade silicone, ID is particularly fun for underwater play and requires only a tiny amount for maximum effect. Take a look at these user reviews:

“ It lasts endlessly, it’s so smooth and soft, it glides over your skin and there’s no stickiness at all! A little really does go a long way and it’s worth every penny. I can’t recommend silicone lube highly enough!”
– says AvantiHay

“It is slightly more expensive than the other leading lubes, however, it’s expensive for a reaso – because it’s brilliant. I will always see this as good value for money as the quality is sensational. Anyone wanting a nice silky lube to help with sex, dildo and anal play then this is the one for you!”
– says Orianne93

“applied to skin it feels great, and it even leaves your skin feeling incredibly smooth afterwards. It’s also waterproof, meaning it is great fun in the shower!”
– says emerald panda (all reviews taken from Lovehoney.co.uk)

This particular brand is both high performance and high cost though, from what most customers say, more than worth it. The ID also nicely highlights most of the advantages of using silicone-based lube over water-based: it is longer lasting, great for bath time play and non-sticky. Particularly useful if using in addition to water-based lubrication for an alternative and longer lasting playtime.

Get more for your money – Pjur Original Silicone Lube

Pjur, available on Lovehoney’s website, is another viable alternative in the same price range as the ID. Yet at £11, for a mere £1 extra you can grab an extra £35 ml for your money. This lubricant isn’t as popular as the ID but the reviews mention similar results to the ID:

“This stuff is fabulous. You don’t need much, so it lasts forever. It gives a wonder slippery wet feeling down below, and really enhances perineal and anal play too.”
– says SlidingthroughtheSpectrum

“It comes in a fairly small bottle but it lasts so long as you don’t need to use much at all. It works so well, I highly recommend it.”
– says LubeyLou on the Ann Summers website.

Again, this particular lubricant will provide a long lasting, odourless, stainless experience with an ultra-silky smooth feeling that most water-based lubricants simply can’t match.

As with the water-based lubes, flavoured or scented variations of silicone-lubes are also available. Many stockists such as Bondara, LoveHoney or Ann Summers also share brand names and include these in smaller packs right the way down to 50ml which is useful if you’re looking to try a particular type of lubrication.

Trial Packs

Whilst silicone-based lubes don’t often come in with many packages or bundles, given that the general preference on the market leans heavily towards water-based lubes, look out for smaller, cheaper trial packages such as these. Useful if you want to dip your toes into the silicone rather than the watery side of the lube pool:

Oil Based Lubricants

These are mentioned in this guide purely for this one, simple purpose. That is, if you’re thinking of using an oil-based lubricant with your rabbit (or other internal use vibe or toy): DON’T.

These lubricants are great for external massages but an absolute no-no for internal use. The first thing that will attract most buyers to these particular lubricants for example is that they are a lot cheaper than either water-based or silicone-based lubricants by the ml. The reason for this is that they are not intended for internal use. If you must use these, use on ABS plastic only and restrict your usage to external uses such as ABS plastic vibes to stimulate nipples or other extraneous areas. DO NOT use these lubes internally however or you’ll find your medical bill higher than the cost of any of these lubricants since they are liable to cause vaginal infections when used internally.

Conclusion

Newcomers to the rabbit (or really most vibrators) should always dive in and choose a water-based lubricant. Similarly, if you’re not sure of which material your rabbit is made from, then do take the time to find out or grab a water-based lubricant to be safe.

Silicone based lubricants tend to be longer lasting, have less of a sticky feel and better for shower time than water-based, though are generally more expensive. In order to be cost effective, invest in a decent lubricant which will last longer or, if you’re looking for only occasional bath or shower use, invest in a smaller bottle. Do keep in mind though that silicone-based lubricants are generally best restricted to use with ABS plastic or jelly rubber rabbits. Always make sure the battery compartment in your rabbit is secured tightly before use and always clean your rabbit thoroughly after use.

Remember, your relationship with your rabbit is probably the only relationship most of us will have that requires a third party. An easy rider usually has the best lube on the side so take the time to discover your favourite!
